Emilly Hadrill fitting hair extensions for a client in her salon

How our hair extensions are made

Ten steps from a single ponytail to the hair you wear, and the standards behind every one of them.

Hadrill extensions are double-drawn Remy human hair. The process below covers sourcing, colouring, making the attachments and the checks carried out before sale. How long a set lasts also depends on fitting, washing, styling and maintenance.

Part one

Making the hair

Virgin ponytail hair selected for Hadrill extensions

01

Sourcing

Our hair selectors choose ponytail hair that has not been coloured or bleached. The cuticles stay aligned from root to tip through processing; this is what Remy means. Donors are paid for their hair, and we visit the production team to review the process.

Ponytail tied with coloured thread before processing

02

Assessment

Before anything else, each ponytail is inspected. Coloured thread is tied at the top and bottom so the hair stays aligned root to tip through every later stage.

03

Colouring

Colour technicians work to physical swatches for each batch. Human hair can vary slightly between batches, so check your set against your own hair before fitting or customising it.

Drawing tool removing shorter hairs from a ponytail

04

Double drawing

A drawing tool removes shorter and uneven hairs from each ponytail, and the pass is repeated several times. The result is hair that stays full right to the ends rather than thinning out, which is what gives a finished set its weight and movement.

05

Making the extensions

Technicians make the hair into tapes, wefts and clip-ins, checking the construction and finish of each attachment.

Part two

Quality control before it reaches you

Finished hair checked against the colour ring

06

Colour check

Finished batches are checked against the colour ring before leaving the factory. Slight variation can occur between batches of human hair.

Extension length being measured

07

Length check

A sample from each batch is measured. Most of our hair runs one to two inches longer than the advertised length.

Second inspection of the ends for fullness

08

Second drawing check

The draw is checked a second time so the ends are as full as the sample that passed.

Hair being washed for the wear test

09

Wash and wear test

The hair is deep cleansed to remove the anti-static treatment applied before packing. Our team in Australia then tests cuticle direction, strength, softness and how well the colour holds.

Approved Hadrill hair extensions ready for sale

10

Final approval

Hair is released for sale after the production and quality checks are complete.

Our ethical standard

Hair that was chosen to be sold

When you buy a Hadrill product you are supporting ethically sourced hair. To us that means hair a person chose to sell, gave clear consent for, and was paid a fair price for. Nothing else qualifies.

We have a long-standing relationship with one manufacturing team, who select the 100% Remy ponytail hair our quality depends on. Emilly visits the factory herself, and our commitment runs from the donor to the packing table. We have set a Code of Conduct for the factory so that its working conditions reflect who we are as a brand.

Thank you for choosing to shop ethically.

Our factory Code of Conduct

  • A reasonable working day with proper breaks
  • Wages above the industry standard
  • Thorough daily cleaning to our hygiene standard
  • All equipment checked and maintained on a schedule
  • Protective masks for everyone in the colouring department
